Here is a fragment from my file called "The Laboratory," where I keep all my little grains of sand until they're ready to go in the oyster.

TAKING A BATH. Why does it fascinate me so? What different kinds of things can one do?
One can vary:
(1) the temperature of the water
(2) the color of the water
(3) the scent of the water
(4) what one puts in the water: oil or powder
(5) the shape of the bathtub
(6) the time spent in the bathtub
(7) bath chart. Necessity for a bath chart.

A Southern belle has a bath chart that must be consulted. If she has the wrong bath on a given day, she goes apoplectic.
